Meet Beretta & Benelli. They are 3 year old Chocolate Labs. They were dumped at the Animal Protective Association by their family as they left town. The APA tested them for heartworms and found them positive. The APA does not treat heartworm positive dogs. Their policy is to turn them over to a rescue or put them to sleep. When done correctly, heartworm treatment is expensive and time-consuming. Dirks Fund decided to get them from the APA before their time ran out. They are very sweet and bonded to each other. We have done blood work and started them on heartworm treatment. We are looking for a foster home for them while they are undergoing their treatment.
